my philosophy of teaching

In the art classroom…

I strive to be an equity-centered trauma-informed art educator. From mindful classroom set-up and lesson planning to meaningful relationship building, I believe in the power of art and art making as an avenue for students to feel empowered and connected in community with each other. When making all decisions in the classroom, I focus on a balance of predictability, flexibility, empowerment, and connection. Student agency and knowledge are paramount for self-expression through art making, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving to be fostered in the art classroom. I believe all students are artists and the classroom is their studio.
